FROM OUR PRESIDENT
I appreciate this opportunity to begin to acquaint you with services and programming provided through Schealthness, Inc. Schealthness, Inc. is a non-profit organization and ministry of Asbury North United Methodist Church whose mission and purpose are to be servant leaders to communities in central Columbus by targeting families with programming focused on education, health, wellness and/or other community services.
Freedom School, which is the flagship program of Schealthness, was originally designed by the Children’s Defense Fund, and has been in operation for at least 40 years nationwide. Freedom Schools focus on enhancing the skills of participants in order to increase reading skills and develop in its participants a general love of reading. The Freedom School at Schealthness serves students from first to fifth grade.
Our students, known as scholars, are helped to sharpen reading skills by energetic participation in reading activities in the morning, and exposure to enrichment activities in the afternoon. Enrichment activities expose our scholars to opportunities for expression of different learning styles that help solidify old and new learning. Last, learning through enrichment, helps students to promote greater self-awareness, confidence, and overall mental well-being.
